Untitled collaborated Installation, Part of the group show The Lodger and the Landlord at Atelier Shemi, 2020
One of my most exciting experiences as an artist, this installation was my first complete collaboration with a fellow-artist, Paz Sher. We worked on most aspects of this installation together- planning, creating, executing and consulting together. Individually invited to show at the studio of the deceased artist Yehel Shemi- the artist regarded as one of the Israeli Art’s greatest figures, renowned for monumental minimalist sculptures- where his equipment and art are still exhibited, we chose partner for this work by incorporating our works, Shemi’s art pieces and his tools as materials for our own interventions and works. As we merged and inter-connected our own works, using them as build blocks and raw material, it seemed only natural to use his as such too, since they were all around us and his presence was so commanding.
We did not label the works or divide credit in any way between us- even though there were pieces on display that we had created individually in the past. It was important for us to present the expansive installation for what it was: the fruit of mutual thought, intention and toil.
